Building up on the economy

I spent this whole week working on the game economy in my head before deciding to write it down here. As mentioned in the previous blogs we have in game rewards known as Silver coins, and progression rewards known as Gold coins and experience (XP). Lets talk about them in more detail..

Silver Coins

They are earned during the rounds and can be used to upgrade weapons and traps within the match. To avoid players becoming overpowered, these coins will slowly generated throughout the game. 1 coin every 3 seconds. The Lightbringers will earn 50 coins every time they successfully integrate a machine part into the machine. If a lightbringer is within 30m of their teammate while they integrate a machine part, they will earn 25 coins as assisting them. If they lose a teammate, every lightbringer gets 50 coins to balance the dead teammate disadvantage.

The shadowborn can earn 75 coins if they successfully eliminate 1 lightbringer, if a teammate damages a lighrbinger while the other teammate kills them, it will count as an assist and reward them with 25 coins.

Gold coins and XP

After the round ends, gold coins and XP are awarded to both the teams. The winner earns 200XP and 100 Gold coins. The loser still earns 100XP and 50 Gold coins to ensure some progression even for the losing teams and to guarantee some income even in defeat. The players can earn bonus XP. The Lightbringers get 50 XP per remaining minute on the 10 minute timer, it rewards their efficiency. The Shadowborn earn 25 bonus XP per lightbringer eliminated, it incentivizes focusing on the objectives.

I have planned to implement optional challenges that reward bonus XP and Gold Coins for specific actions within the game. For example, "Collect 5 machine parts in a single round" for Lightbringers, "Eliminate 3 Lightbringers with Shadowborn traps" for Shadowborn.

There will also be a first win bonus that offers a bonus amount of XP and Gold Coins for the first win of the day to encourage consistent play.
