We have made incredible progress in the development of our game. For starters, it is now called "Rift of the Realm instead of "Realm Rift". We figured that it would be easier to pronounce.
Economy
I have set up an economy system for the game. There will be 2 different types of currencies- Gold and silver coins.
Silver coins
These are earned by achieving in game objectives. The light realm players earn a small amount of silver coins by killing DR players, and a large amount of coins for each time a component is added to the machine. In order to maintain a balanced match, both the teams earn 1 silver coin per second. The DR players earn a significant amount of silver coins for every light realm player killed. These coins can be spent in an in game shop that can be accessed any time by pressing TAB. The in game shop consists of traps and weapon upgrades.
Gold Coins
Gold coins can be earned by either winning a round or simply by completed a match. The amount of coins earned depends on your win or loss. Another way of earning them is by completing the daily goals. They can be spent at the gold coin shop accessed by going to the character menu. Character and weapon skins can be bought using them.
Fresh UI
We used our Miro board to come up with a new UI design. Below is the screenshot of the new design-
The game starts with a title screen which leads to the team selection screen. Once the team is selected, the players are directed to the character menu where the magic happens. This is where they can access the gold shop and spend their gold coins. They can also see their level and their progress bar. They can access the appearance option and update their character appearance.
A daily tasks option might be added which will reward the players with experience and extra gold coins. The players can access in game settings from there and start matchmaking once they are good to go.
As the match commences, the UI updates and the players can see an in game UI with information like, time remaining, daily task info and progress, realm info, health bar, ammo remaining, weapon selected, silver coins earned and realm switch cooldown time.
Once the match is over, they are displayed with a results screen that shows if they have lost or won. The screen also shows their daily goal progress and achievements. From this screen they ca head back to the menu and start a new match or quit the game.
Map updates
As mentioned in my previous blog, I created a second map for the dark realm. And made some exciting changes in the first map. Both the maps were rescaled to fit more ambient objects and make it feel less claustrophobic. The theme of the map still remains futuristic to go well with the lore.
